I am knitting over the knee socks, 4ply, and want a firm band. How do I incorporate knitting elastic. Have never used this before.
I assume you are using the thin thread of elastic? Then you just use it together with your yarn. Hold the two together as one, and knit with it. It will make your yarn stretchy and pull in tighter on the ribbing. I suggest that you use a 2/2 rib for better elasticity.
You can also add the elastic later by threading it through the stitches, but I find it too much work.
im after a site that will turn a photo of my friends dog i have on my laptop into a cross stitch kit with all the thread and fabric, i dont want a site that takes however much money off u then expects u to post the photo to them i want one i can directly upload the photo to.
anyone has any ideas then let me know im willing to go up to £40 dependent on size
This one any good? http://www.needleworld.co.uk/acatalog/Photokits.html
The ones you send off are quite good, but I suppose it takes that bit longer.
Make sure you have a really good, clear photo and be prepared to use the chart as a guide rather a set in stone you-must-stitch-this-colour-here chart!!
Good luck!
cross patch is located in weston super mare, town.
it is bright pink and full of all your craft supplies, scrabooking to cross stitch and card making!
well. can cross stitch be theropuetic?
The art of knitting magazine gives you a ball of wool to knit a 15cm by 15cm square to knit a throw / blanket (which appears to cover a double bed). I have 27 issues (therefore 27 squares to knit) so how many issues do you think it will take to knit the throw? Thanks.
the subscription is 90 parts so im presumbing it is 90

all i could find was the books on how to do them…i want the actual kits with the string, needle, and grid…i know they have a whole isle for them in the actual store but i want to purchase them online.
Not everything in the store is online, sorry.
Thought the same thing once.
Particularly interested in the North Woods Christmas and Victorian Garland stocking patterns found in this issue.
Hi miz_eleanor,
If you cant find anyone with a back issue you may try the Goodwill or Salvation Army thrift stores as they have old issues of magazines or try contacting BH&G to see if you can order a back issue. Last but not least try a cross stitch website. Good Luck: Blueladybug
Hi I want to start knitting because I want it to start being a hobby or at least a test run. But I don’t know how to knit and I don’t have yarn or needles or anything and even worse I can’t even knit!!!Where can I buy cheap but good needles and yarn? Thanks, bye!
Many craft stores sell kits with instruction on how to knit, some yarn and a set of knitting needles. Michaels, Wal-Mart and Joann’s carry them or you can buy them from websites such as www.lionbrand.com.
There is a very good website called knittinghelp.com that has short videos you can replay that show the basics of many different knitting stitches.
Knitting takes some patience to get going but it is a very enjoyable pasttime. I’ve been knitting for more than 30 years.
You might want to also check out The Knitting Guild of America www.tkga.com
I loooke in michael’s but it was a bit expensive for my budget , i need big ones to hang on my living room walls. Can i find ssuch kits in walmart too? Any other home decorating ideas (affordable)
Our Wal-Mart has them in the yardage/hobby section. If you can’t afford large ones, get several small ones and group them together.
If you want BIG just buy a piece of plywood the size you want, cover it with quilting batting and then cover it over with fabric that you staple in the back. Pull it fairly tight before you staple and miter the corners so they are smooth. If you use real plywood, primer or paint it first to seal it and be sure it’s thick enough that it won’t warp. You can do several of these in the same material or each one different but coordinating colors and hang them in groups.
I love crafts, cross stitching, sewing, paper crafts, beads, dolls, cold porcelain, etc. Do you think I could make a living at home by doing this and selling? Any ideas?
I’ve been developing a craft business for several years, it takes time. You have to be determined and have another source of income. You could try selling on etsy.com for starters because people go there to buy crafts. Also, you could do fairs, but sometimes you have to pay to enter. If you do fairs you might have to have a way to accept credit card payments. If its a true business you want, then do it right. Get a tax i.d. number and a sales tax number so you can buy wholesale. Like I said, it takes time. Good luck!
I adore Raymond Briggs The Snowman and have a book of cross stitch patterns based on the film – but I am bored of cross stitch!
Can I use the patterns to make a latch hook rug or would it not work because you wouldn’t be able to see the details?
Is there any other crafts which I could use the patterns with?
Thanks!
It should work for latch hook, if you are going to try to convert them for knitting then please remember that a knitted stitch is rectangular, not square. You could end up with a very squished pattern otherwise.
You could use the patterns for tapestry or even replace the coloured threads with beads and do beadwork pictures or even bead weaving.
