What should we name our cross stitch business?

Posted by admin on December 5th, 2011 and filed under crafts cross stitch | No Comments »

My boyfriend & I are opening a cross-stitch business: making patterns/kits & selling them, making the actual crafts, etc. We seem to be stuck on finding a name for our business though! Our names are Justin & Lauren, if that helps in any way. Please help us out & give us some name ideas!

Thank you!!! ^_^

where can I buy petite braid for counted cross stitch?

Posted by admin on November 6th, 2011 and filed under crafts cross stitch | 1 Comment »

my local craft stores do not carry this product

I buy my counted cross-stitch supplies from 123stitch.com because they carry so much and offer discounts on almost everything. Try searching their website for "petite braid" under the "Thread" category. Hope that helps.

What to do with cross stitching?

Posted by admin on September 9th, 2011 and filed under crafts cross stitch | 1 Comment »

Every autumn I start knitting for the cold weather, and it seems like I don’t stop until the snow starts melting. Hats, mittens, scarves, sweaters, socks….
So before all that chaos (but since I have a thing for needle crafts) I decided to try cross stitching.. The thing is, I’m used to having a complete item when I’m finished with a knitting project. With cross stitch, I have a few pictures of various sizes, but that’s it! What do I do with theses pieces?

I see cross stitch hung in picture frames, or on decorative pillows, but is that all? It seems like cross stitch is just an embellishment to projects for people who enjoy sewing, but I don’t have sewing needles or frames or pillow filler or baby clothes or backing fabric or anything just laying around…

What kinds of projects can I do? Any suggestions or info on this new little craft I’m trying would be appreciated.

Thanks!

A close relative is needlepoint, which can be used for chair seats.

Cross stitch panels can be used as decoration in things like glasses or scissors cases and you can often find kits for these. They can be inserted into plastic mugs: http://www.leisurearts.com/cross-stitch/mugs-for-mom-dad-cross-stitch-patterns.html or put under clear light switch covers (such as you find for use with special wall papers). The small ones can be mounted in clear fronted magnets and used on the fridge.

You can also purchase special AIDA cloth items to embellish without having to sew. Such as hand towels and baby bibs. These are ready made items that have a section of AIDA for working counted cross stitch already built in.

Where can I buy a cross stitch kit?

I want to start cross stitching or needle point….I bought a kit from Walmart in the past but now I can’t seem to find them. I want to buy retail and not online…..any suggestions ? I’ve been having a hard time, I figured a craft store but my search hasn’t been going well…..I live in CT if that helps.

Michael’s carries some kits. so does Hobby lobby. Joann’s and some fabric stores carry crafts, too.

Online, Herrschners is reliable, at least they were when my Gran was crafting.

Can I sell cross stitch projects that the pattern is copy righted?

I have recently started to design cross stitch bookmarks but have used the letters and patterns from different sources and have just combined them. for example used letters from one company and the main picture from another pattern source. I want to be able to sell these at craft fairs and places similar. I just want to make sure that if i sell these items that I don’t get in trouble with copyright infringement.

Your cross stitch pattern is a derivative work of whatever you’re basing it on. If that work is copyrighted, your derivative work is illegal and considered copyright infringement.

what are some fun crafts/hobbies for a 13 year old girl?

I’m 13 and I’m looking for a new craft to do. I LOVE crafts! I like to make polymer clay charms but the clay and tools and everything can get kind of expensive. I also like to cross stitch and make friendship bracelets. I just want something that’s fun and cheap. Thank you!

Given that you like cross stitch, have you tried other forms of embroidery? You can always use some more embroidery on shirts, skirts, or pant cuffs. What about making your own clothing? You can always start out with clothing for dolls to gain skills and hand sew small amounts.

selling cross stitch copyrisght?

i have found a website to which you can sell hand made crafts. I have some cross stitches that i would like to sell, i have taken the charts from cross stitching magazines. would me selling my stitches break any copyright laws or would this be legal

many thanks

It is generally NOT a copyright violation if you sell something you have stitched. It is not a violation even if you sell a chart that you have bought and paid for (sort like re-selling a book you’ve read). It IS a violation if you have made copies of a chart and sold or given them away.

That said, most designers and magazines don’t have a problem with you selling finished pieces, provided you’re not mass-producing them for sale.

How many of you knit, crochet, cross stitch…etc?

How many of you know how to and actively do a needle craft?
Is it a dying art?
Do you think it’s something that only old women/grandmothers do?

I do all three plus sew and I’m learning to spin. Heck, I’m a member of my local knitting and crochet guild. In our guild the average age of knitters/crocheters is about 35 years old. We do have a lot older members but it seems the majority of new members we get are in their 20s and wanting to make their own clothes. I read an article a while back that due to the recession needle crafts like knitting, crochet and sewing are experiencing a resurgence in popularity and based off of what I’ve seen with my group it looks like it’s true.

I don’t think it’s something that old women do (obviously, I’m 26 and do it), there are tons of patterns out there that are made to be worn by young people. It would be funny to see a bunch of old ladies out yarn bombing a city street though.

What are your hobbies/things you do in your leisure time?

Posted by admin on April 29th, 2011 and filed under crafts cross stitch | 6 Comments »

I like watching movies, dramas, reading, and doing crafts (cross-stitching, painting my nails)

But sometimes I don’t know what other things there are to do, so I want to try finding a new hobby. If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it thanks :)
I’m 15 btw

Not that I get much leisure time but when I do I like to crochet. I’ve been doing that for the last year. Also I like to write stories. I used to paint and I’m starting to get the itch to do it again.
