i love cross stitch, i started when i was pregnant 13 years ago!, the biggest one I've done is two clowns and it is 4 feet long! it took ages though, i love any cross stitch with loads of different colours, the one I'm doing now is a giraffe, i to don't know anyone who does cross stitch but i suppose it needs patience and a lot of people don't have that quality. x
References :
I love cross stitching even though I don't have much time to do it. I love the fact that although I couldn't ever paint a picture, I can take a piece of fabric and a chart with symbols on, and make a work of art. The feeling you get when someone admires your work is wonderful. and to think that it's just made up of crosses.
References :
I haven't done cross stitch for some time now, but I loved getting that magazine. I saved them and gave them to my daughter-in-law with instructions that she could only give them away to me. She loves cross stitch and with two little girls and another on the way, I'm sure there will be more cross stitchers soon.
The web site for Cross Stitch Magazine has free projects that she loves.
By the way, if you don't like 4 letter words, please do not check out the subversive web site. It is totally uncalled for.
Happy stitching! ~-~
References :
I love cross stitching for several reasons. It's relaxing to me and I like having a creative outlet. I can choose to work on a predesigned pattern or kit, but I have the option to customize pieces to suit my needs. The more experienced you get, the more possibilities you discover.

There's an endless supply of patterns and ideas available for free or low cost, and the materials are relatively inexpensive. You can get dozens of books at the library on both technique and patterns.

You can stop and start projects at any time, and they don't take up much space in your house. You can store unfinished projects for long periods of time, then come back to them whenever you want.

You can also make wonderful, personal gifts for family and friends. I've made many personalized pieces for weddings, new homes, new babies and holidays. You have the option to customize your pieces and make truly one of a kind gifts.

You can work on really large, complicated projects over a period of time and have a real sense of achievement when you finish it, or choose a small, uncomplicated piece for instant gratification.

And finally, it's a good way to prevent snacking in front of the tv at night!
References :
I found a site where you can turn any image into a cross-stitch chart: http://www.microrevolt.org/knitPro so I'm doing a portrait of my favorite musician. It's fun and I find it very calming. I call it my occupational therapy.

I get lots of inspiration from the Craftster embroidery boards: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php#19

And if your friends think that cross-stitch is just for grandmothers, show them this: http://www.subversivecrossstitch.com **Edited to add that these patterns use strong language that some people may find offensive.**
References :
Hi

I love cross - stitch it totally relaxes me. I think you have to be a rather patient person, who enjoys challenges, because not everybody can focus and concentrate on something so detailed. I have shown friends before when they have sneered at my hobby, but when they see something come together and it resembles (I think art) they are really impressed and this often gets them interested.

A good friend of mine introduced me to cross - stitch and I am really grateful to her.
