I used to cross stitch on fabric that had color on it to show you where to put the thread – what is it?

I tried doing a bib for my cousin but that didn’t work out but now that I need a stress reliever I’d like to pick it back up but I forget what it’s called. I ordered a stamped cross-stitch through the mail but it did not have color on the fabric to show me which thread went where. Obviously, it’s a beginner’s craft!

Tapestry canvases normally have the colours printed on and there is normally a colour key at the side is this what you are thinking of.

The other answer is correct with what they wrote about stamped cross stitch.

Most stamped cross stitch is printed all in blue. And then you have to follow the pattern instructions as to where the colors go.
On site below it doesn’t say if the bib is color coded. I would contact the company before ordering.
Michael’s craft store use to carry stamped color codes kits. but I haven’t looked for them in years.
