There are very few needlework stores left in Manhattan, because of the very high store rents. There's Annie and Company, 1325 Madison (bet 93rd and 94th), mostly needlepoint with some knitting and cross stitch. None of the major craft chain stores (Michaels, AC Moore) are in Manhattan. If you are willing to venture away from Manhattan, there are Michaels stores in Queens, Staten Island, and in New Jersey. If you're particularly interested in cross stitch, I highly recommend Where Victoria's Angels Stitch (www.wvas.net) in Clifton, NJ - about 15 miles from Manhattan and easily reachable by bus.
