can you show me how you count the squares when you are starting the project. I don’t know if you count from the right or left. Most books say start from the middle.

Usually cross stitch projects do start from the middle to avoid the work buckling on large pieces but it’s also the best way to start small motifs as you can then ensure that the picture ends up with the same amount of aida around each edge.
