here’s a site
http://patternsforyou.com/ — has free bead & cross-stitch pattern maker online. but i think there is some nominal expense if you customize.
this site generates knitting patterns which you can convert to/use as cross-stitch pattern.
http://kpg.sourceforge.net/
you could print out your pictures on grid/graph paper. this will give you the number of squares, colors, & other details to work with.
or you could send me some pictures. i have a cross-stitch pattern designer & have helped quite a few people on Y!A by converting their pictures into cs patterns.
if you have many pics/photos, it may be a good idea to invest in a cs CD – then all it takes is a few seconds to convert. you can also Create your own designs.
i have a DMC cross stitch pattern designer & am very satisfied with it. it is very inexpensive too. here’s their technical support site :
www.gsp.cc
hope these help
all the very best & happy embroidering
