one can find acid free masking type tape to use on the edges if they are worried about the acid in it. also if they would cut the materia a bit larger than the finished project they could cut off that edge so there would not be any need to worry about the acid leaching into the design area.

Much better! The tape is loaded with acid – so not good. Use any stitch – straight or zigzag – and zip around the edges. Don’t get freaked out because your edge stitching doesn’t have to be straight or pretty.

I used the masking tape method on one of my first projects, but I find that it isn’t my favorite way to protect the edges. Upon removing the tape, I found that it was hard to peel off, and the tape left a sticky residue around the edges. I think that sewing the edges of the piece might be better.
