What is the best yarn for knitting headbands?

I’ve started knitting and have been practicing with cheap yarn that I bought at a craft store. I want to start making headbands and obviously want to use better yarn, but I am not sure what the best would be. Anyone have any preferences or recommendations as to what kind of yarn or any specific brand of yarn? Thanks in advance!
I’ll be using a US 7 needle and a worsted yarn

I think the Hengyuanxiang’s better. I have many friends like this brand of yarn.

Need help with Bucilla cross stitch pattern 41971?

I inherited several cross-stitch kits from a relative. On this one, North American Wildlife, there’s a symbol in the pattern that is not in the color list: an asterisk. I’ve tried the Bucilla website – which is apparently now plaid.com – but they say that since this pattern was discontinued over a year ago, they no longer have it on file and can’t help me. Does anybody have this pattern and know the color, or know where else I can look?

Wanting to get into a craft group in Omaha, Ne area?

Are there any ladies that would like to get together to do craft things such as cross stitch or emborarying knitting or crocheting quilting for fellowship in the Omaha, ne area?

Chances of other Omaha folks seeing this post are slim and it might get deleted because Yahoo Answers doesn’t allow requests for personal communication, but if you go to your local craft stores, there is a chance there are already clubs formed. If not, don’t be afraid to start one yourself! My mother and I started a sewing club and it’s a lot of fun. Your local craft store will be enthusiastic about it and may even provide the space for you to meet.

Does anyone know of any good knitting patterns that are toys?

I’ve been looking for a good pattern, and I was just curious if I could get some input from others. I like knitting fun things like toys, and things that are different. Any tips would be great!

I have a book called World of Knitted Toys, by Kath Dalmeny. Most of the toys are knitted with sport-weight yarn over size 3 needles. It includes patterns for gorillas, kangaroos, snakes, koalas, wolves, and pigs, among others. The chapters are arranged by themes and they also include a doll (like a Canadian mountie) that goes with each one. Most of them are beginner or intermediate level patterns.

knittingpatterncentral.com also has some free patterns for toys and other things.

what is the significance of autumn black bird motifs on thanksgiving and harvest decorations?

as seen in fall crafting projects like cross stitch samplers and today I saw some feathered replicas in Michaels craft store featured near foam pumpkins.. What do these black birds historically symbolize?

It’s the whole scarecrow/blackbird-crow thing: symbolizing the scarecrow scaring off the blackbirds so that the crop can flourish and be harvested in the Autumn!

What would be a good name for a knitting charity?

A knitting cause that either knits for needy people or a cause which knits, sells knitting and uses the money to benefit a cause.

How about "Purls Of Compassion"

I did a search and didn’t find any other charities(I think) that have that name.

What’s the most efficient way to sell craft supplies and books?

I’m ready once and for all to downsize my stash of craft books (mostly knitting, crocheting, cross stitch), magazines, and supplies. I’d like to know how others have succeeded and what they recommend. I’ve had limited success with Amazon, and am now considering Yahoo groups, eBay, blujay, and such. Ideas will be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

There are also some great websites that allow you to trade books, CD’s, DVD’s etc. See my profile for link to titletrader and paperbackswap. This allows you to get rid of an item you no longer want and get something you do want in return. Titletrader is awesome because you can trade books, dvd’s, cd’s, games and vhs tapes. So if you get rid of a book you may be able to get a dvd in exchange. Paperbackswap is only for books. I have found that doing ebay or amazon is pricey cause you don’t really get your money’s worth for these items and you have to pay fees etc.

What do you do when the knitting patterns ask to ‘turn leaving remaining stitch unworked’?

It just means that your turn the work earlier than at the end of the row (just meaning the last st isnt knitted). Just act as if that last st (or sometimes sts) arent there.

It’s very similar to short row knitting (a good example here: http://knitty.com/ISSUEsummer05/PATTtychus.html – the pattern has you knitting in a way that stop short of 2 sts every time you knit in a certain direction).
