November was the month of posting on my blog each day. I’ve decided December will be the month of guerilla art for me. Guerilla art? Yes, guerilla art.

I first stumbled onto the concept on the blog of author, illustrator and guerilla artist Keri Smith. She defines guerilla art as "any anonymous work [...] installed, performed, or attached in public spaces, with the distinct purpose of affecting the world in a creative or thought-provoking way" (Keri Smith - The Guerilla Art Kit, p. 11). The idea fascinated me, but I never did anything with it. I still had the idea that guerilla art was the field of graffiti painters and the like.

Last summer Smith published a book called The Guerilla Art Kit. Only after reading it did I realise guerilla art can be literally anything, and there’s no need to leave behind a permanent mark like graffiti. How about making seed bombs for areas in your neighborhood that could do with a little colour instead? In her book Smith puts forward lots of great ideas that are very simple, but will make an impact the environment you live in.

So for me December is gonna be the month of my first steps on the path of guerilla art. I’m gonna start small with the postcard project. I’ve made a postcard and written down the ‘rules’ at the back. Now all I have to do is leave it somewhere for someone to find. I’m all excited about it. Of course chances are somebody will find it, hate it and throw it in the bin straight away. Ah well…
