I’ve started knitting and have been practicing with cheap yarn that I bought at a craft store. I want to start making headbands and obviously want to use better yarn, but I am not sure what the best would be. Anyone have any preferences or recommendations as to what kind of yarn or any specific brand of yarn? Thanks in advance!
I’ll be using a US 7 needle and a worsted yarn

I think the Hengyuanxiang’s better. I have many friends like this brand of yarn.

  I think an elasticized yarn would be nice because it would fit over the head but snug enough to hold hair out of the face. I don’t know what needle size or yarn weight you plan to use, though, so it’s hard to recommend a kind.

  Another cheaper alternative would be to buy the very fine knit sweaters at thrift stores and unravel them. Look online for blogs about recycling or "frogging" yarn this way. Frogging yarn is pretty easy, and it is real cheap. I got a violet colored lambs wool sweater, very fine yarn, that would make nice headbands. When I unraveled it I got a lot of yardage, and the whole sweater cost about $1.00, so you can’t beat the price. If the yarn is too fine you can always use two strands to make it thicker.

  I knit a calorimetry with Crystal Palace Taos yarn. This cost me 7-8 dollars a ball, but only took a small portion of the ball. It is a nice yarn to work with.. thin, really nice colors, and it’s a pretty good quality yarn. It may be hard to find, though. Also, I think I used a size 8 with it, but 7 would probably work just as well.
