Three days without posting.. So much for my NaBloPoMo challenge this year. Luckily, there’s always next year.

Last week I promised myself to go and see my GP if my cold hadn’t gone away by Monday. Well, it hadn’t. But instead of prescribing antibiotics, as I had expected, my doctor sent me to hospital straight away for some tests and some X-rays. This was to be my first experience with the Irish health care system and the stories I’d heard so far weren’t very promising. Even my doctor told me to bring a book, because it might take "a while".

I did bring a book and boy, was I happy I did! "A while" turned out to be almost 9 hours, arriving at 16.15 and leaving at 01.10. I know I was not an emergency, with no cut off body parts or deep wounds, and I wasn’t screaming with pain, but 9 hours? After 5 hours I asked the nurse if she had any idea at all about how much longer I’d have to wait to see a doctor. She said she’d ask him. An hour later they finally called me, just to tell me it would be another while before the doctor had time for me..

In the end, after the tests and the X-rays and a reprimande from the doctor because a) I’d ignored this cold way too long and b) I couldn’t remember the name of the antibiotics I’m allergic to, I could finally go home. With a load of prescriptions of course. And the order to rest and avoid stress. Right.

Now I´m home. Resting. Not doing anything. Because even just popping out to the supermarket to buy fresh veggies is exhausting.

So much for my NaBloPoMo this year. I’m sorry I didn’t make it. But I’m going participate again next year, that’s for sure.
