This morning on my way to work I passed two women. It seemed they’d been talking and now were each going in a different direction. As the distance between them became larger, one of them turned around and, as an afterthought, had a very urgent question to ask.

Woman 1: "Hey! Are you…?" while gesturing towards her belly
Woman 2: "Yes!"
Woman 1: "I thought I could see it…"

All morning I wondered what they were referring to. These are the possibillities I’ve come up with:

a) Woman 2 has been losing weight and woman 1 is very supportive
b) Woman 1 has noticed that woman 2 has been putting on some pounds lately. Not very subtle, but friends should tell you the truth.
c) Woman 1 is admiring the new belt woman 2 is wearing
d) Woman 2 is on a diet and she’s so hungry, it actually shows in her eyes

It must be one of these things. Because surely, you wouldn’t just yell across the street to ask if someone’s pregnant?
